Clay Hensley picks up third win for the Florida Marlins in a late bullpen role – MLB Update
Clay Hensley managed to end a long running bout on Sunday, September 4 when he closed down the Philadelphia Phillies in the 13th and the 14th innings. The Florida Marlins’ pitcher was up for a closer’s role and he did not take any pressure
in securing a crucial winner over their National League East rivals.
Hensley was up to his best as he struck-one hitter and retired the other five he faced. His biggest accomplishment was of decreasing his ERA to 5.34. The other positive note was the third win he picked up for himself under the deliberating situation he was
in.
The game which took place at Sun Life Stadium, home of the Marlins, was fully energized with 14 innings of play. Both teams that competed on the field looked strong in the early innings. However things got tense when the seventh inning ended with an even
score line of 4-4. It took a Mike Cameron walk off RBI to secure a surprising winner for the Marlins.
Hensley did his job well in keeping the pressure on the Phillies. His focused play ensured the Florida side a tied series with the Phillies. The management will take positive notes from the performance on the field and Hensley is doing well to ensure his
role in the team. The player was eager to get his chance on Sunday and that was clarified after the game.
"I was hoping to get in this ballgame at some point, so it ended up working out for everybody," Clay Hensley said. "It felt great. I enjoyed coming out off the bullpen when I did it before this little starting thing for a while. I especially enjoy coming
out of the bullpen late in games and stuff like that, so it was a lot of fun. Got a lot of adrenaline going that I didn't have in a while, and I felt a lot better out there."
With a positive outlook on hand, it can be said with certainty that the Marlins have a good asset in their locker. Hensley may be the consistent thrower they have been looking for.
