Clay Hensley sparks as Florida Marlins rout Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 - MLB Update
Florida Marlins’ starter, Clay Hensley had a notable day with his pitching as he threw just over five innings and allowed three earned runs with an ERA of 5.40 in the Marlins’ 6-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
on August 26.
In the first inning, Marlins started extremely well as they scored their initial run to take a 1-0 lead. Logan Morrison hit a grounder into double play, short-stop to first base while Emilio Bonifacio posted a single run. Omar Infante got out to second base
at the end of first inning. The batters looked ineffective and did not take any run during second inning.
Phillies got off the mark at the bottom of third inning and tied the game 1-1 when Wilson Valdez hit a one run homer (375 feet) towards left-field. Marlins went ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning by adding one run to their respective score-card. Mike Stanton
posted a single run when Greg Dobbs doubled to right-field.
Bonifacio singled off centre-field during fifth inning but got out to second base on the grounder of Infante. In the same inning, Morrison doubled to right-field while at third base, Stanton grounded out. Hensley gave up three hits, three runs, one walk
and one home-run. He was able to strike-out only one batter on his 73 pitches.
In the sixth inning, Marlins raised their lead by taking four runs while Phillies blasted three runs to cut their deficit 6-4, at the bottom of sixth inning. John Buck hit a solo homer (363 feet) to right-field while Dobbs, Gaby Sanchez and Mike Cameron
each singled to complete a four-run campaign for Marlins.
Marlins’ manager, Jack McKeon said, “He made some good pitches but the guys jumped on it. The way we've been hitting we had a h**l of a night because we haven't been hitting that well.”
On the other side, Ryan Howard struck a three-run homer (422 feet) towards right-field while Placido Polanco and Chase Utley both added two consecutive runs for Phillies. Seventh and eighth innings were not in favour of the batters as the pitchers threw
accurately. In the ninth inning, Phillies contributed only one run to reduce their lead 6-5. Cliff Lee scored a single run when Michael Martinez doubled to deep left-centre.
After winning a crunch game, Marlins led off the two-game series 1-0.
