Clayton Kershaw not to downplay Tim Lincecum – MLB News
Despite Winning the CY Young Award, Clayton Kershaw, is still not feel proud and is giving value to all of his Major League fellows. During his 2011 season, one of the major performances, which helped Kershaw to be able to crown the award, was against the
defending World Series’ Champions’ starter Tim Lincecum.
On a question that he won all four against Lincecum, Kershaw downplayed the fact that these were against the starter. He stated that it was never important to recognise, who was against him from the Giants. Kershaw commented that the Giants were a tremendous
team with some amazing pitchers.
Looking back in the season statistics reveal that a competitions between Lincecum and Kershaw were not less than the battle, as each game did not extended to more than two runs. Clayton won all of the four outings with scores of 2-1, 1-0, 2-1, and 2-1. In
these starts, Kershaw struck-out 36 batters in just over 30 innings and in all of these starts, he allowed a total of one earned run and 16 hits.
However, Kershaw explained that the pitching of Lincecum as off speed stuff with a right hand and he considered it the only difference. Kershaw has not changed his team since starting his big league career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008, but now, with
a CY Young Award winner tag, the clubs are looking for expected moves.
"I think whenever you have Cy Young next to your name, there are going to be expectations that go along with that,'' he said. "Whenever I look at a pitcher and see that he has won the Cy Young Award, what I'm thinking is that this guy better be good. That
is what I hope to be. I hope people will have that expectation for me. I hope people expect me to be good, because I expect myself to be good.''
It was the best ever season Kershaw has played in his short four-year career. Kershaw played a career best 21 wins, 2.28 ERA, 33 starts and just over 233 innings. He has become the first Dodgers’ pitcher to get this award after 1988 and first starter after
2003.
