Clayton Kershaw shines as Los Angeles Dodgers beat Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 - MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter, Clayton Kershaw had an outstanding day with the ball as he pitched his five innings with an ERA of 2.30 and struck-out five batters in the Dodgers’ 3-2 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on September
14.
Dodgers opened their scoring account by blasting two quick runs and got a 2-0 lead. Matt Kemp drove a single-run shot towards left-field and Tony Gwynn posted the first run for Dodgers. Later on, Kemp moved to second base on a throwing error. The second
run was taken by Kemp when Jerry Sands hit a single-run drive to centre-field and Aaron Miles occupied third base to end the first inning.
The pitchers threw beautifully from the second to seventh inning and did not give up any runs. James Loney walked at the bottom of the third inning but Miles popped out to second base, Kemp flied out and Sands struck-out looking. Similarly, Diamondbacks’
batters also looked immobilised as Miguel Montero ground out, Chris Young lined out and Ryan Roberts struck-out without taking any run during the fifth inning.
At the bottom of the sixth inning, Sands ground out to short-stop position while Loney and Miles both popped out to short-stop without adding any run for the Dodgers. Montero singled to left-centre in the seventh inning but Justin Upton fouled out while
Paul Goldschmidt and Young both struck-out.
Trent Oeltjen walked at the bottom of the seventh inning but Rod Barajas and Jamey Carroll both flied out without any run contribution for the Dodgers. In the eighth inning, the two teams added one run each to move the score-board 3-1. Geoff Blum was ground
out to short-stop position but Roberts scored a single run for the Diamondbacks.
Kershaw gave up only one hit on his 63 pitches. He said, “He's too strict. Bill is back there just trying to make sure that everything is OK. I understand that he has a job to do.”
On the other hand, Miles hit a single-run shot to left-field and Kemp added the final run for Dodgers. Later on, Loney occupied second base to end the eighth inning. Diamondbacks were able to score just one run in the ninth inning and reduced their lead
3-2. Aaron Hill posted the final run when Montero singled off left-centre.
Despite this exciting victory, Dodgers lost the three-game series 2-1 against Diamondbacks at Los Angeles.
