Clayton Kershaw sparks as Los Angeles Dodgers beat San Diego Padres 4-1 – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter Clayton Kershaw destroyed the San Diego Padres batting squad with another full game outing to help his club get a 4-1 dominating win in the first outing of the three-game series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Monday,
August 29.
The right-hand hurler struck-out five batters and allowed only one run on six hits over his nine innings to get his seventeenth win of the season. Kershaw tossed 84 strikes of 118 pitches to improve his record to 17-5 with an exceptional 2.45 ERA in his
26 starts in 2011 regular season.
This performance cemented the Dodgers’ position for the Cy Young Award.
Andre Ethier, James Loney and Rod Barajas contributed in the Dodgers’ four run stint. Ethier started the game with his line drive RBI single to centre-field, scoring Matt Kemp. Then James Loney launched dazzling homer to right-centre to earn two runs. This
hit took the Dodgers to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kershaw allowed his only run in the top of the fourth inning, when the Padres’ catcher Nick Hundley doubled to left-field, allowing Oliver Hudson to score.
In the bottom of the fourth, Rod Barajas hit a sacrifice fly to left-field to score the fourth and the final run of the Dodgers.
After this, the Padres’ pitchers also made a strong retaliation and held the Opposition scoreless until the end of their ninth inning. however, Padres’ bat could not provide considerable back-up to pitchers and remained under great pressure of gritty pitches
of Kershaw.
San Diego Padres’ starter Mat Latos lost his thirteenth game of the season, permitting four runs on five hits, walked four and struck-out five batters over his six innings.
Josh Spence allowed a hit and struck-out one batter in less than an inning, as Ernesto Frieri did not allow any run over one inning.
The Dodgers now have won 63 games and they will be looking to improve their performance if they want to be a part of the post season. It was the 75th loss for the Padres.
