Clayton Kershaw sparks as Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 3-2 – MLB Update
Clayton Kershaw tossed just over six innings, Matt Kemp contributed heavily and closer Kenley Jansen got his second save, as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Colorado Rockies 3-2 for the second straight night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 26, to take
a 2-0 lead in three-game series.
Kershaw struck-out six batters over 125 pitches to grab his fourth straight win and 12th overall win of the season. He also allowed two runs, two walks and eight hits. His high hit rates did not drop him from improving his record to 12-4 with
2.72 ERA in 22 games.
Matt Kemp led off the game with his double to deep right-centre, allowing Rafael Furcal and Andre Ethier to steal two game opening runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Juan Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to the second baseman, allowing Kemp to score the
third run in the inning.
All of these runs were made against Jhoulys Chacin, who allowed three runs on three hits and walked one batter over six innings to receive his eighth loss of the season. After Chacin worked his six innings, his relievers’ Rex Brothers and Mark Reynolds and
closer Rafael Betancourt did not allow any run, but the batters did not provide enough support to take his team back into the game.
Todd Helton scored an RBI each in the fifth and seventh against Kershaw but the Dodgers’ starter Matt Guerrier tossed 1.3 innings to hold him from getting further runs. The game was in a crucial situation in the ninth inning, as the Rockies were desperately
looking for at least one run but closer Kenley Jansen worked a perfect inning to rule the Rockies out of the game.
With this win, the Dodgers have reached closer to the Rockies in wins, as they now have 47 wins which is one short of the Rockies 48. Both teams have an equal 56 losses in this season. However, the Dodgers have better home record than the Rockies. Looking
at their average wins at home, experts believe the Dodgers have more of a chance than the Rockies to snatch the next fixture on Wednesday.
