Clayton Kershaw’s strong pitches help Dodgers beat Mets, 4-2: MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter, Clayton Kershaw, after giving an early run in the first inning, struck back exceptionally to strikeout eight batters in the Club’s sweep-avoiding 4-2 triumph over the New York Mets at the Citi Field on Sunday night, May
8.
The Texans' pitcher tossed a sloppy pitch to the Mets' Ronny Paulino, who smashed it to left side of field for a runs batted in (RBI) single. However, the left-hand pitcher retaliated immediately and tossed three powerful pitches for strikes.
Kershaw tossed six and 2/3 innings, allowed just one run on six hits, walked three and write eight more strikeouts to his 45 with 3.12 ERA this season.
"We've been scuffling a little bit," said Kershaw, who was responsible for the Dodgers' only other win in their last eight. "We've always been in the games we've been losing, but it was good to hang on at the end."
The Dodgers were facing one run deficit in third inning, when Aaron Miles hit a tying RBI single off the Mets’ starter, Robert Allan Dickey. Rod Barajas then hit a grounder to third baseman for RBI single and took his team to 2-1.
Andre Ethier, who lost his hitting streak in last game, re-generate his power and launched a two-run homer in seventh to take 4-1 advantage over the opposition. Dodgers’ were already leading with 2-1 when Ethier entered the plate and hit a 347-feet long
two-run homer to the deep right side of the field.
Ethier, after losing the batting streak, was eager to make comeback with bat and this hit would definitely give him a chance to accumulate his scattered powers.
Ethier, who has added a single after 0-for-4 on Saturday, said, "It's a good way to get it going again, to get the win and get things righted a bit. The last eight games have been tough for us."
The Dodgers’ closer, Vicente Padilla, gave away an RBI triple to Jose Reyes in the ninth to carry the tying run on the plate, but the 33-year-old hurler snub designated-hitter Carlos Beltran to fly out and jammed David Wright wavering for his fourth career
save and second of the season.
The Dodgers’ relievers, Kenley Jansen and Matt Guerrier both did not gave any over their one inning pitching.
Dickey gave away four runs on ten hits, walked two and made three strikeouts over seven inning for his fourth loss and now has 1-4 record with 4.50 this season. However, closer Mike O’Connor despite pitching two perfect scoreless innings could not gather
his first save.
