We just bought an intext above ground pool. We filled it up but as soon as I put my chlorine in it the water turned green, I know copper could be the problem (I will go to the pool store tomorrow) My question is, is it safe to swim in it? The water is very clean, it's just green. It was VERY hot today and I know my husban is gonna want to go in it when he gets home from work. Is is harmful????

  1. You have got an algae problem.

The chlorine spent on organic material in the water. That organic material is algae

Keeping the chlorine level where it belongs will usually prevent algae from forming. However, it takes a "ton" of chlorine to get rid of algae once you have it.

You need an algaecide. You can get it wherever you buy your chlorine.

If algae is growing other "bugs" may be also. I would suggest that your husband have a cold beer or two and stay out of the pool until the green is gone.

  2. its safe, but it may stain your suits and burn the eyes a little--  remove all the chlorine ( if you used tablets--)  if its low  your fine...  get mineral magnet -- use about 6-7 ozs--   depends on your pool size. mine 13'x36"--   3 days later with pump running about 12 hrs a day--  ( give it a break once in awhile so it doesnt burn out)-   keep rinsing out the filter every 2-3 hrs-- it will be brown, but if you dont rinse it , it keeps going back into the pool--   once it clears, get the little bag safe shock, shock it, test your chlorine levels, and start fresh from there---- any time you add water, use a little of the mineral magnet too to keep it clear                        edit-    its not algea--the water turned less than 1 day-- its hard water -- do not use any more chlorine until it clears up
