Question:

Cleaning Old Hardwood Floors?

My husband and I are cleaning his parents house and we want to pull the carpet out of the spare room. There are really nice hardwood floors under there and the carpet wasn't put in correctly so there are no tack strips.

But it is very dusty and filthy! How can I clean the floors (especially the corners and edges) without ruining the wood?

It's real wood. And I don't think it needs refinishing, just a good clean.

Thank you!

  1. you could use vinegar and ammonia with water

  2. Dust mop your floor or use a soft-bristled broom or vacuum attachment on a regular basis to remove dirt particles.  Don't use excessive water when mopping and always use a non abrasive cleaner.  Protect your floor from future scratches and indentations by using furniture leg pads and protective rug pads.

  3. Cleaning wood floors regularly is a must to protect them from getting scratches and spills. Choosing the type of flooring depends, in part, on the function of a room....

  4. Get some Murphy's Oil Soap and follow the directions. Just a little elbow grease and microfiber cloths should do the trick!
