Question:

Cleaning/Painting a wood porch?

I am interested in both removing old paint (maybe w/ lead) from my porch and then painting it with a weather-safe paint. I tried to scrub it with a wire-brush, but all the paint "chips" come down on me. Just looking for any tips contractors or experienced out-door painters might have concerning the removal of the old paint.

Also, other sites recommend hiring a licensed contractor to remove lead paint. Good luck.

  2. Depending on the size of the deck I would say sanding is the way to : Belt sanders or try renting a walk behind from united rentals. Definatly wear a respirator anyway, but there may be certain codes to observe regarding the possible lead paint. As to repainting you'll need to prime coat and then use a stain with sealant mix; perhaps a Colby brand
