Sorry guys, I got a guitar and it's black so it's like FINGERPRINT CITY! Fingerprints everywhere though I try very hard to be careful ):

Anyway, does anyone have a good way to clean/polish my guitar? It's an acoustic btw. I DON'T WANT TO use a product because the nearest music store is like an hour drive ): I DON'T WANT TO HARM THE FINISH. If you recommend something may you please tell me how you know it works? Thanks :]

Can someone PLEASE help? I'm clueless!!! I don't know what the heck I'm doing! And I don't know what home remedies don't harm the guitar.

Please help! Thanks so much guys!

  1. use furniture polish

    it won't hurt it

  2. Furniture polish may damage it.

I screwed up a violin with furniture polish, and spent $200+ having it repaired.

Just wash with a wet towel, and maybe add a LITTLE lemon or white vinegar. Just a dot.

  3. Brenna has the best advice so far, but I doubt you'll listen to my answer since I'm kinda messing up the question. Was it how you feel comfortable for now, but definitely invest in some guitar cleaner. Go online to www.guitarcenter.com or something like that and have it mailed to you. trust me. In the future it will make life so much easier!

  4. Get the new microfiber cloth which cleans all these fingerprints with a little water on that cloth. That's it. The finish on most guitars lasts a long time and

DO NOT USE PLEDGE OR OTHER PRODUCTS AS THIS WILL BUILD UP A CRUST NOT NOTICABLE TO THE EYE.

Eventually , the guitar will lose sound andquality. You can clean the fingerboard with a little bit of olive oil and that is actually good for the neck.

  5. do not do what the others have recommended!! thats all wrong!!

furniture polish will damage the finish of you guitar!! and so will  lacquer!! use only Gibson guitar polish and a polishing cloth made for guitars, you can by at you local music store .polish your guitar every time you change the strings and if you have a rosewood fretboard wipe it down with lemon oil with a 100% cotton plain white cloth

  6. mine is like that i use a glasses cleaning cloth it does the job

  7. Best thing to do is to use a laquer from the store, then use a soft cloth. If you do not have a way to get to a music store, next best alternative is to use a clean, soft cloth and clean very softly. As long as you don't use a hard piece of fabric, or a thick towel, you won't harm the finish of your guitar. Use a soft cloth and clean in circular motion, very gently. What you want to do is get those fingerprints off anyway.

This will help, but make sure you get a laquer to clean the finish of the guitar, and the fretboard as well. Best luck.

  8. Standard squirty furniture polish works fine with a duster and a bit of elbow grease.
