  1. C.F. Martin & Company recommends using a warm, damp washcloth to wipe away the smudges and stains, then dry it with a soft cloth.

Pay close attention to the cleanliness of your fretboard. If it is rosewood--which many are made from--it can be cleaned by using OOOO steel wool (along the fretboard) and then oiled and rubbed.

Ebony and maple fretboards are cleaned differently. A warm, lightly soaped damp washcloth will clean ebony fretboards. If your fretboard is maple I suggest taking instructions from the manufacturer's specifications or a technician at the music store.

As the previous answer describes, you can use a quality guitar polish for the guitar body and neck.

  2. if you have a gloss finish, and it's really grubby, get a clean soft rag, and some lighter fluid, and it'll be clean as a whistle real quick. then any brand of guitar polish will protect it. (yes, lighter fluid,  it won't hurt the finish, and dissolves almost everything that could get caked on the guitar) as far as the dent goes, if it's pretty shallow, you might try a hot soldering iron and a damp rag to try and swell the wood back out. put the rag over the dent and hold the soldering iron against the rag, just be careful not to scorch the guitar, a few tries may take take care of the problem
