Use one of those foaming denture cleaners.  Safe, non-toxic, does a good job--after all, that's what they're made for!

use Fantastik -  pour it in and swish it around, then use a baby bottle brush to get some of the residue off.  you might want to use regular dish soap afterwards and rinse it out really good or it might burn or have a chemical taste next time you use it.
