  1. that happened to me b4 and the guy that fixed it told me that if dust builds up it will get messed  up try opening it and cleaning the dust and if you see something out of order then thats it

  2. I had the same problem with mine.

Mine had a hard playing new games like God of War II.

I found that the problem was the laser. I had a disk cleaner for my dvd players. So I just used that, and that fixed it.

I would not recommend taking your ps2 apart and playing with the laser. Friend did it, he regrets.

If you buy a dvd cleaner. Make sure the actual dvd has some kind of cleaning application.

Example: My memorex dvd cleaner, it has bristles on the bottom of the dvd, so it uses those bristles to clean the lens. Once i did that, ps2 was back to normal.

  3. CD cleaners can scratch the lens. Just get a cotton bud, dip it slightly in a rubbing alcohol, gently clean the lens.

  4. You will want to clean the laser on the CD reader with a Qtip.  Don't remove any part that you don't absolutely need to.  As with all electronics, make sure you are grounded (touching metal) before disassembling so you do not build up static. I wouldn't use any liquids as they may cause more damage than they fix.

  5. found 2 cleaning guides online, choose the one you prefer. I have done this in the past and worked find afterwards
