Question:

Cleaning brake pad / rotor?

I was installing a new caliper with pads and a rotor and decided to put some grease in my ball joints. Some grease squirted from the gun onto the rotor and also got on the brake pads. I wiped it off, but I know this could be a serious issue if I don't get it all off.

What's the best way to fully clean these without degreasing behind the pads and contaminating other brake parts?

  1. well you can get brake cleaner anywhere but if you have drove it already then you might as well pass on it wipe it off is ok....it will cause the pads to gaze over making it harder to stop but most of the time it dont.. more than likely your ok i wouldnt worry about a small amount.. but if it bugs you .. just get new pads is about 25 bucks and 30 minutes

  2. Red label CRC Brakleen.

  3. brake cleaner can find at your local auto parts store

  4. Go to the auto parts store and buy some brake cleaner in the spray can. That does a good job cleaning the rotors and brake pads of grease, dirt, etc. (it works kind of like Gumout carbureator cleaner. Just spray it on and the gunk just rolls off)
