Cleaning coccidia from environment

My cat has coccidia. She is on medication to rid it from her system, but I am not sure how to rid it from our house. They say that you should use bleach to clean surfaces and litter boxes, but what am I supposed to do about the carpet? It doesn't say anywhere that coccidia can live in the carpet so do I still have to clean it?

  1. I know that you have to do that to kill distemper...I had not heard you had to do it to kill coccidia to the same extent.  It is my  understanding that it has a life span outside of the cat for 10 days.   I would have her dewormed and then treated again 10 days later as is usually  suggested by the vet...

Cleaning off the carpet would be difficult.  When I have had distemper from foster cats in the house, I used the bleach solution on hard surfaces and an antibacterial spray on the couches etc..

    Good Luck

  2. I would contact a company like Stanley Steamer and see if they offer disinfecting.  And, check with your vet for more suggestions.

    Good Luck!
