Cleaning gerbil cage....any other ways to do this?

I just got a gerbil yesterday she's 6 months old and she's really nervous because of the new enviroment...

She pooped alot last night and her water bottle dripped a bit so I decided to clean out and refill everything in her cage. So obviously I had to take her out and the only place to put her is in here exercise ball. She gets quite nervous in it, and she claws at it...

Any other places to hold her whenever I clean her cage?

  1. Get a box/bucket that is plastic and a foot or taller in hight. Also stick a bit of food in it for her. Make sure not to use anything with cardboard because she could escape.

  2. i always put my gerbils in a bathtub with the drain plugged put some toys in there and the  gerbil will have a blast while you clean the tank

  3. The gerbil needs a friend. gerbils are very social animals. And when you separate them from being social, that makes them nervous. Buy another gerbil! Make sure its a girl, though or else you will have a baby factory. :) So any way, put them in a bucket with stuffing and food. And a toy. She'll think its her cage.

  4. Try laying a towel down in a dry bath tub and leaving her in there. There's little chance of her escaping from there, and she's not confined to a ball. She'll also get some exercise, as well.

When I clean out my gerbil's tank, I put them in a carrier. It's just a plastic critter carrier I got at PetCo. It works out well. I just fill it with some of their old bedding, give them some food, a paper towel roll to chew on, and they're happy until I'm finished cleaning.

  5. you should have two gerbil as they need comamy 24 7, that way is poo and pee alot, one gerbil one it own will not live as long will make a bigger mess as they nothing better to do

this website is very good have a look

  6. i put my 3 gerbils in the bathtub with the drain closed when i clean their cage. they love to run around in there! you could also put something for her to hide in if you think she will be scared in the bathtub.

  7. You could try puting her in a shoe box with some holes cut out in it for air or you could try (in your spare time) buy or make a gerbil playpen. Add some toys her water bottle and a bit of food and I bet she will be happy in no time!

  8. get a bucket, fill it with some of the old sawdust and add a toy and some food. she'll be perfectly happy in a simular environment to her cage while you clean. :)
