I have an old house w/ antique glass fench doors and some old mirrors and new mirrors, so I know that it probably isn't the glass, but no matter what window cleaner or glass cleaner I use, I can't get rid of the smears. I have tried every method from newspaper, coffee filters, shop towels other paper towels, its not the lint or lack thereof, its a film and smudgy. I think part of the problem may be that I burn a lot of candles, nonetheless, I would appreciate any cleaning tips that you could offer. My glass looks as if I have 10 sticky little fingered children running around.

  1. Try acetone you can find it in a beauty supply store, it will remove any thing, but doesnt hurt glass. You will have to wipe the acetone off the glass with a dry clean cloth

  2. Vinegar and water always works well.  I also use Pledge, they have one for all surfaces and it comes in a blue bottle.  From my experience, it works really well.  Also, don't use paper towels, they tend to leave a lot of lint and stuff behind.  I usually use an old t-shirt that's been washed a million times

  3. I've found that the best way to restore the shine to old mirrors and glass it to use rubbing compound. The kind you use on auto paint. Use the liquid kind ( Blue Coral ). Or if you can find it, try Glass Wax, usually found in hardware stores and some auto parts stores. After that just use white vinegar and water.

  4. I would recommend using vinegar and water in a spray bottle. I have a empty Windex bottle and I filled it half vinegar and the other half water. Then I use cheep paper towels or news paper. The vinegar will take away residue and news paper or towels will leave no fuzz. Try ammonia and water also it removes soap scum.
