Cleaning golf clubs? Polishing?

Question

What is a good cleaner (409, Lysol, etc.) to clean golf clubs with? How about to polish the paint? Would car wax work fine since I believe my clubs have a clear coat finish?

The best care for your clubs is a Turkish towel, one third wet and the balance dry. After making a shot ,clean the face with the wet end and dry with the dry end. If there is residue in the groove, use a sharp ended wooden golf tee, gouge out the dirt , wipe it with the wet end and dry with the dry end. If you do this with every shot your clubs will always be clean and ready for use. Wipe the grips as well for they get grimy with use.Watch the tour pro caddies. They do this religiously.

car soap would work good but i use that kaboom always on TV and a wire brush to get the grass off

I ALWAYS USE PLAIN SOAP AND WATER, IT WORKS FINE AND WILL NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ON THE CLUB TO AFFECT SPIN... "HIT 'EM STRAIGHT"

soap and water with a nylong stiff bush should be fine.  Not sure why you want to polish the clubs, most people want their clubs to be dull so they do not produce glare.

for performance, just make sure that the grooves and clean and sharp on yoru irons, especially the wedges.

DO NOT use car wax or any other sort of wax.

For my customers I use a mild solution of dish soap and water. By painted, if you mean woods, most do have a clear coat. I buff them on a buffing wheel with a soft pad and VERY light buffing compound.

What ever you do, do not use WD 40.

It will eventually ruin them.

Don't use a wire brush either.

I clean my clubs after every time i go out and i use the original dawn blue soap with a toothbrush in a bucket of the warmest water from your faucet. With the warm water it helps the dirt and grass just come off that much easier. But be careful, don't use water that your hand couldn't be in. If it's that hot, it might make paint melt or something.

But any hand soap or anything like that will do. The best I have used is Murphy's Oil Soap.

as for polish maybe you try some "scratch x" or a similar wheel polish sold at auto stores, any of the meguiars polish should work great.

I use Wesley's Bleche White.  It is a whitewall tire cleaner but works fantastic on golf clubs.
