Okay, I started cleaning my room on Friday and all that happened is that it got messier. I have no idea on the quickest way on cleaning it but IT NEEDS DONE! I can hardly move around without climbing over my desk and other c**p that is sitting everywhere! I also want to organize my closet, any good tips that can get it done faster??????

OH and one more question, I have those sliding closet doors that are on the track but one door fell off on the bottom and i don't know how to fix it.

thx

  1. throw stuff away as you're going. that will help eliminate. use a large trash bag so you're not making a trash pile. you're not one of those "pack rats" are you??

i know those closet doors you're talking about...i'm a girl and i've fixed them before. you have to man handle it, like lift up on it and align it back onto the track. you'll figure it out. if i can do it, you can.

    good luck.

  2. One area or corner at a time. When I say "corner" I mean quadrant. Put stuff aside and the last quadrant should be by the door so everything goes out as you're finishing.

Put a light on and examine the wheels on your closet door and lift the bottom wheel in and push the top into place and you should hear a snap. slide it and be gentle with that door. It'll probably happen again.

  3. Generally, when you are cleaning your room, it does get messier because you are taking stuff out of the cabinets and such. The best thing to do is just get through the big stuff first, like your closet or under your bed and then tackle the small stuff like your desk.

  4. Sounds like you have alot of clutter.  Grab some large garbage bags and start tossing everything that you don't need, that's broken, that hasn't been used for over a year.  If any of it is in any shape to be donated, toss those items into a separate garbage bag.  Dispose of those items first then look around your room.  Do you have shelves or baskets for your stuff?  It needs to be organized.  If you need to, run to your local hardware store and grab some of those easy to assemble shelves or cubby-hole units.  Make sure the stuff  you use all the time is easily accessible.  Take the time to set up your room so that when you use something, it's easy to put back.  Once the clutter has been sorted and everything has been organized and put on a shelf, or in storage (under the bed or high closet shelves make great storage!) make the bed, dust everything, and spot clean the walls and windows.  Good luck.  It's tough work but rewarding and you'll feel so much better when it's done!

I think you have to lift the door back onto the track.

  5. Get three bags/boxes.  One is "Belongs Somewhere Else."  One is "Throw Away."  One is "Give Away."  Set a timer or by looking at the clock, make yourself start in one corner and clean for 15 minutes by putting things where they belong and sorting everything else into the bags. STOP at 15 minutes and go do something else for 15 minutes!  This is VERY IMPORTANT.  Go check your email, put a load of laundry in, call a friend, read a book and STOP when 15 minutes is over.  Do this until your room is clean.

You will be surprised at how a planned, organized attack with built in breaks will get you much farther than a haphazard non-focused approach.

When all the clutter is gone, grab a few rags and cleaning supplies.  Change and wash your sheets, vacuum, dust everything and wipe down the mirrors and windows.  Keep to your 15 minutes on 15 minutes off schedule.  Last, do a final walk through of your room making it perfect... then grab a cold drink, turn on some calm music and sit back and enjoy the clean, chill environment.  Do this once a week and you will be much more put together on a daily basis, and will feel great about yourself.

This is how I keep my chaotic life under control!  You have a place for everything, you take breaks, and you follow your systems.  Once you have systems in place, and you ALWAYS put things where they belong... your room will clean itself and you will have more time for fun!

Good Luck!  Trust me... this plan works.  I've implemented it with friends and now I'm their favorite organizing helper!  You can do it!!!!

Oh and for the closet, usually you just need to push one end into the groove and lift the other end up over the lip and it should slide into place (unless you have a different kind... in which case... sorry for the wrong info!!!)

  6. Start by grabbing some garbage bags, or waste baskets and cleaning out all of the little pieces of garbage you find around you room. Look high and low, and get rid of it! You'll probably already notice a difference.

Second, get some laundry baskets and fold out your clothes, the ones that you don't need anymore throw into a "Giveaway" basket, the garbage clothes throw into a "Garbage" basket, and the ones that still fit.. fold up and put neatly into your closet.

Third, start actually cleaning. Put on some music, and grab some garbage bags. Start on one side of your room, and throw out everything you don't need into a garbage bag, neatly organize your remaining stuff in that portion of the room. Once you are satisfied with that portion of the room, move over to another section.. and use the same instructions!

    Good luck!

like start on one side and work your
