Question:

Cleaning mouthguard

I have a hard plastic mouthguard I have to wear at night. So far I've been brushing it with toothpaste and soaking it in mouthwash to clean it, but it's not as effective as I'd like it to be.

I tried soaking it in hot water, but it made the plastic get soft and I definitely can't risk it losing it's shape.

Any other ideas as to how I can clean it?

Does denture cleaner work any better than the methods I'm using?

  1. Try soaking it in vinegar.

  2. why not ask a dentist for effective results? dentists knows best. so they would know what to do on cleaning your mouth guard. if you don't have time going to a dentist, call him/her if you have their number.

  3. Hi!

I would suggest soaking it in vinegar and then washing in warm water (not hot!) and possibly adding something else to get the vinegar taste away!

    Hope I helped!

  4. I have a hard acrylic night guard and use denture tablets and it makes it really nice.  I don't think you want to use extremely hot water just hot enough to feel hot to the touch not boiling hot.

  5. idk but i am so not pickin u for best awnser on my questionit was absolutly no help at all

  6. You are very correct in not putting it in too hot of water,  it will soften and change shape if you are not careful.

Denture tablets do work well for mouthgards,  there are also the same type of tablets for orthodontic retainers,  and they would work well also.
