Hi, I own a 1-2 acre pond that is filled with bluegill bass yellow perch sunfish trout golden trout catfish and crappie...Would it be ok to put chain pickerel in that pond...I hear they dont get nearly as big as Pike!!!! Also, My pond water is very dirty and I am looking into getting a few products to clear up the water, but it says it could bring the pH down but I dont have an aerator system in it and I want to get a solar powered one...Where could I get these for a low cost????? THANKS!!!!

  1. The Chain pickerel (Esox niger) IS a Pike, silly goose...the water is dirty because there are too many fish and not enough aeration; putting a few pickerel in will fix the overpopulation problem in a jiffy!

Here is a low-cost solar powered fountain, if you installed two or three of these that should do the trick...

  2. some fish you list are competing for food.don`t put to many fish in your pond that makes for unhealthy system more fish means less food per fish less food means stunted growth. pickerel are a eating machine. They will surely eliminate some of your investment. best idea and works the best, build your own paddle wheel and  pump gals. of water on it . the Internet should have plans to build or go to the library for sure. TAME THOSE FISHIES

  3. Ignore that last goofball, a chain pickerel is very similar to a pike, but they are in fact different fish. To actually answer that question, you have to be very careful when stocking ponds, so either get someone who knows there stuff to do it, or get them to advise you on what to do.
