Question:

Cleaning my puppy's kong toy? ?

I just bought my puppy three kong toys so I could fill them each with peanut butter Kong filler and treats and stick them in the freezer and have enough for a few days.

Question, though...

Obviously my puppy isn't able to get all of the residue out of the Kong. How do you clean your Kong toys to get the peanut butter out? Are they dishwasher safe, or will the heat mess up the rubber?

  1. This is actually something made to clean kongs with:

If the Kong was in a package, it should say.

  2. Stop using peanut butter or anything else that's creamy or sticky. Instead, fill the kong toy with broken pieces of biscuits, treats, rawhide, kibbles, et al. --- if you stuff it tightly, it will keep the dog busy for a long time, and it will all come out cleanly.

  3. just what jasmine said. or dishwasher. but i like to boil them to get any grime and muck off. plus i like to be sure my dogs' toys are sanitary. and the heat wont really do anything unless you light it on fire or something lol

  4. I used to sell the kongs (kind of like a mystery shopper to see how good the product was selling) and the best thing to clean them is to take a little dab of soap (preferrably the foam soap), luke warm water and a baby bottle cleaner (the brush). That's how they taught me to clean it. They never said if you could was it in the dishwasher and I have never tried. Hope this helps.

  5. Those Kongs are made of pretty thick rubber so I think the dishwasher top rack would do fine to clean them.

  6. Best way to clean them is to stick them in the dishwasher.

  7. I agree with everyone else - just wanted to say THANKS to Jasmine - give her best answer!  I work at a rescue where we give peanut butter kongs to all the dogs at bedtime, then we wash them all the next morning.  We've gone through several different types of brushes - none of them fitting perfect.  Now we can order the kong scrubber, I'm so excited!

  8. Dishwasher.

I've get these for puppies and fill them as a pacifier.  I've tried to wash them with the dishes but it's just so much easier to stick in the dishwasher.

Still want to use a scrub brush?  Consider this link instead of the one given above.  http://www.bizrate.com/dogsupplies/oid61...

Same product, about 50% less.  And no, I get nothing by promoting this product.  I just prefer to help someone save some money.

May I suggest a couple options for stuffing the Kong?  Instead of spending more money on Kong fillers.

A dab of peanut butter on the small end and fill with with water and freeze.

Other option, instant mashed potatoes and then add a few pieces of kibble or treats.

Peanut allergies in the house?  Use sleeze cheese (canned cheese)  on the small end instead of pb.
