I am planning to buy one of those aquarium vacuums that are used for fish tanks to clean my turtle's tank. Have anybody used it before? DO you think that this will work and keep the tank' water clean longer?

  1. I have used a siphon to clean my red eared slider tank and it does clean out the water pretty good but if you want to maintain the water quality longer you will have to by a high power filter probably something that has a gph rating higher than the gallon size of your tank. Also i also recommendturtle clean . You can add it every time you do a water change to break down solid wastes in the water.

here is a link for the turtle waste stuff....

its commonly availble at petco or petsmart or most petstores :)

  2. i have tried the aquarium vacuums before and don't find them very good, it is much better to use a siphon and do a part water change also an under gravel filter works much better and you can get the siphon pipe under it and get all the muck out this with a water filter will keep your tank clean. best of luck

  3. I use a bilge pump to siphon out my snapper's tank. It gets out the worst of the junk but I wouldn't call the result "clean". Every little bit helps, though.

  4. It won't keep it clean longer, but it does make it alot easier when you are cleaning. Also if you have gravel, it will clean the gravel better, which makes the water not smell as bed.

  5. If you follow good care guidelines with a good filter, like this article recommends (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/wa... siphoning out about 1/4th of the water weekly, focusing on the gravel, will help a lot.
