Question:

Cleaning surgical steel?

How do you clean surgical steel? My grandmother gave me a knife I came across cleaning her house and it's quite dirty. I scraped off most of the dirt, but there are like stains or something. What is the best way to clean the knife, especially on the serrated side? The handle is also a capsule with a lot of texture (and a lot of stains) so I don't know how that plays into what I can or can't do (like will any chemicals harm the rubber fitting in the capsule lid?) Btw, I only know it's surgical steel because it says so on the blade.

  1. Try scrubbing the blade with some baking soda sprinkle it on a damp sponge - rub the blade a couple of times then soak the knife in dish soap and hot water for a few hours. When you remove it from the soapy water it should be clean enough - rub it    dry with a clean cloth.

You could try a pumice stone to rub on the blade if there are stains that don't come off it- using the above method.
