Question:

Cleaning up a park-do I need permission?

I took my dog for a walk at a nearby park and the park is disgusting. Garbage everywhere. So I emailed my Biology 2 teacher and asked if I could borrow some waders, so I could clean up the park. She said it would be great to do that. I also have rounded up a lot of friends to help me!! My mom is wondering if, since I'm not doing this with school, if I need permission from the city to clean it. I thought why? Because why would I need permission to clean a park? Do you think I would?

  1. no u don't, i think its great u and your school is cleaning a park:)

  2. NOT IF YOU ARE GOING TO PICK UP TRASH, ALTHOUGH YOU MIGHT NEED PERMISSION IF YOU WERE WANTING TO PAINT OR SOMETHING

  3. Nope! (=

That would be like asking for permission to throw a way a candy wrapper you found on the ground while walking one day.  Obviously you wouldn't, it is the same for cleaning the park, just that you are cleaning garbage in larger quantities.  Good luck, I think that's really great!

I do that all the time at my local park, I'm glad to see others doing the same.

  4. I wouldnt worry about it

  5. I wouldn't say u would. But just don't leave the trash there. Just take it home a throw it away. I like the  way u want to clean up the park though. I clean up the streets in my neighborhood (SOMETIMES). It makes your state look alot better. Like I live in Kentucky and there was all this trash on the ground and I got some friends and we cleaned it all up. Just remeber that u have to wear plastic gloves and a stick or something to pick up the trash with.

  6. The reason you might need permission is in case somebody gets hurt - like they pick up a piece of wood with a nail in it, or they get bitten by a snake or something.  I'd take the 10 minutes required and talk to the local Parks & Rec folks - because maybe they can even *help* by providing garbage bags or dumpsters, or tools to make things go faster or easier.  As one poster noted, you're going to have to get rid of the trash once you collect all of it, and if the city can help with that, it's much better than transporting it in somebody's car or truck (and having a bag break, and getting trash all over their car.)
