Cleaning up our country?

A few weeks back, East Coast Radio - ran a campaign where they asked listeners to send through pictures from their mobile phones of buildings that had been totally destroyed by graffiti.

The pics went to the website and people voted for which one should be cleaned up.

A wall was chosen, East Coast Radio got in a company to sponsor cleaning agents, and they got a whole bunch of celebrities even Durbancity manager Mike Suttcliffe to come out and scrub and clean the wall.

At the end of the day, the job got done - The sponsor got mileage out of the excersize and we were all happy.

This lead me to think, seeing as though our Government do nothing about these things (as our rates and taxes get used to fuel the gravy train) - do you think that more initiatives like this should be started - where the funding doesn't go to corrupt Government hands and concerned citizens - get together and do the governments jobs for them, sponsors get their mileage.

Could this work?

  1. That is a brilliant idea, and i believe it could work; it just needs some people with drive to kickstart it as the majoritory of the nation are content to sit back on their laurels despite what degredation we are sinking to.

  2. Exactly what I have been saying for a long time! Instead of giving the money to the Governmental Society take the money and do the things that you want done yourself at least then the money will not disappear in a web of corruption and you can actually see for yourself what have been done with the money! One of the Orphanages here needed new beds, so everybody in one of the Running Clubs were  getting sponsors, donations and money, but instead of giving the lump sum to the orphanage, they found out how many new beds were needed and then went to buy the beds, deliver them to the orphanage and bought extra duvets with the last R  1 000. And every one including the orphanage were happy and satisfied

  3. The only thing that is going to improve Johannesburg's inner city, is a blast crater surrounded by a nuclear winter. I think it reached a stage where it is beyond normal human repair.
