Question:

Cleaning upholstery (red dyed cotton)?

My husband and I have red (cotton, I'm guessing) couches and we had them stored at my mother's and over the weekend she had a leak in her roof right above them.

There is now water stains on both couches and I've tried the baby wipes suggestions but to no avail its not working.

I looked into steam cleaning, but a friend is trying to discourage me from this because a few years back she had a red couch and had a company come in and they ruined the couch and the dye ran and became uneven.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean them up with out totally fading the fabric or making it look worse???

I found an online site claiming "whipped detergent" would work, has anyone tried this?

Thanks!!

  1. I would go with a stain remover for carpets. I have a white chair and I just removed a stain by spraying, leave for 5 mins and then blotting off......I cant ever seem to blot though and end up rubbing but it came out perfectly. Only thing I would pay attention to is make sure the stain remover is bleach free since you have red upholstery........if you can find one for dark carpets thats a plus.

    Resolve works well.
