Clear Grout?

I just bought crystal glass mosaics for my backsplash. The mosaics have 3/8" thickness. When I ley the mosaics on the backsplash, I do not want to use any cemented grout or I could not use silicone. Silicone may come out in time and I do not think it will be efective. I want to use clear grout so I could achive to see the thikness of the glass. Is there aythign that I could use instead of grout? Do you think 100% Solid Epoxy might work with what I want.

  1. Spectra color makes a wide assortment of acrylic and epoxy grouts. you can special order it through Lowes, or if you have a Winco or Dal-Tile in your area they can also get it for you...

  2. If the two surfaces are hard and flat, use super glue. Try to eliminate the space between the edges of the mosaics as much as possible.

    This will work well!

  3. I have worked with many different types of grouts.  I found that if I need this special order epoxy 2 part mix yourself system, that I can contact Home Depot to have it ordered.  It usually takes less than a week for it to arrive at the store.  I believe it is called 100% solids epoxy grout. It will be clear for that look that you want.

  4. Hello sezar,

Above all you want to follow the directions recommended by the manufacturer.  Usually, we see highly modified thinsets (SuperFlex by TEC, MegaFlex by Customs Building Products, etc.) recommended for setting material and always in white.  The white helps to accent the mosaics' color.  I wouldn't use an epoxy grout, it may be allowed with your particular tile, but many times it's frowned upon by glass manufacturers due to its inability to expand/contract.  There aren't any clear cement based grouts to my knowledge, but you'd lose out on the "depth" created by mosaics without some type of colored grout.  A bright white cement based grout properly sealed will last and fill in the sides of the tile to really help make it visually "pop" out.
