Clear stickers that they use on elementary desks

Question

You know in elementary school how they put your name on your desk? and they put that clear lamanate sticker over it to protect it? what is the name of this sticker thing?

can't you just use really big clear tape? o-o looks the same to me.

You can use clear contact paper, if you want to laminate something both sides, you just do one side, then the other, then trim.  If you want to just stick it to the desk, wall, etc, you can just trim it to fit, make sure you have a good 1/4 inch around, then stick it.  You can buy clear contact paper in Walmart - it's the stuff you line cupboards with and comes in other colors as well.

You can also get laminating sheets - that you don't have to use a heat laminator with - at places like Office Depot in different sizes.

Dont they write the name on a card and then laminate it? At teacher supply stores they should have some and i think i would call them Desk Name Tags.
