Question:

Clear window in back door of house?

My previously council house has been bought by a housing association, promising loads of home improvements. We have all just had the first part - new windows and doors. everyone is happy with everything except one thing. The back doors have clear glass in the windows! We go to choose the style of doors but it wasn't clear in the photo's that the back door would not have the usual opaque windows. We can't fit blinds or curtains to the doors of course, so no privacy.

Is this normal? Do people actually choose clear windows ever?

I chose the door with the biggest window, though as I was the first to moan about it I have been given a date for mine to be changed to opaque, I don't know if everyone else will be treated the same.

  1. Yes people do - for various reasons.

You could buy these faux stained glass self adhesive panels and stick them onto the door.

I my neighbour did that with her back door and it was fine.

Of course it is a matter of personal taste.  Another thing you could do is - using Velcro stick some semi- sheer curtains up over the door.  Your stick the Velcro on the frame over the door, then sew the Velcro onto the top finished edge of the curtains and affix it up.  You will need to pull aside the curtains each time you open the door, but at least it provides some privacy.

    Have fun.

  2. clear glass in bathrooms and toilets happens as well mate so dont worry about your back door its onlt a 2 min job to change glass once made, and if you picked obscure glass make sure you get it.  they messed up not you

there is another option of having your blinds inside the glass unit these are fab ive fitted them in several properties now they are excellent and also come with 10 yr guarentee
