  1. 7-10 days to be safe.  Get a debit card and sign up for onlinebanking.  It's more convenient.

  2. IT TAKES 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS TO CLEAR. SOMETIMES ONE DAY IF THE CHECK IS A CHECK FROM THAT BANK. I WOULD CHECK MY BALANCE BEFORE I TRY TO USE ANY MONEY.

  3. depends on your bank

  4. Cashier's or certified check there should be no delay. Postal money orders likewise are as good as cash. Personal and out of state checks can take from four days to a month, even if drawn on the same bank they are deposited to. The funds thus held up are put in "overnight" accounts that the banks maintain. They earn interest on the basis of their daily balance, so the longer your money is kept in limbo there, the more they make on it. It may only be pennies, but multiplied by tens of millions of transactions it amounts to a lot.
