The 26-year-old finally made his much awaited international debut last week against the reigning Asian Champions in an international friendly at Stade de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
The Frenchman’s first ever international appearance was cut short because of an injury, but the player is more than pleased with his debut nonetheless.
While talking to club’s official website, Clement Chantome stated that it was one of the greatest moments of his career and he can’t describe his feelings in words.
The defensive midfielder said that it was a moment of great pride and despite the injury, he enjoyed every single minute of his debut.
The player added that it was difficult to play at Stade de France that night and he was under immense pressure. However, Chantome feels that he did pretty well and did no harm to his chances of representing the national side again in future.
“It was great, even if, due to the injury and the 1-0 loss, it didn't end so well. I came on at half-time on a difficult pitch.”
The 26-year-old added that talking about your first international game is easy, but only the player knows how amazing it is to be playing for your country in front of so many people.
“But when all is said and done, it was a great moment because, for a player, your first international cap is something unforgettable."
When asked about what went wrong against Japan, Chantome said that it was frustrating for Les Bleus to lose the game like that. After dominating for the lager parts of the game, conceding a goal so late was harsh on the men in blue.
The player added that his side didn’t deserve to lost against the Samurai Blue and they were unlucky to lose like that in the end.
"We were very frustrated when we got back into the changing rooms because we had the feeling we dominated the game, controlled the play and created a lot of dangerous chances. We conceded a goal on the counterattack late on, from one of their few chances
to score.”
