Clement Koretsky wins first stage of Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta 2011 - Cycling News
AVC Aix en Provence team’s Clement Koretsky showed a tremendous performance in the first stage of Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta 2011 in Ville-La-Grand on Tuesday, August 23.
The French cyclist took the total of 3 hours, 41 minutes and 59 seconds to cover the distance of 150 kilometres. In the final kilometres, Koretsky increased his pace and managed to gain a gap to take his stage victory.
Hoppla Truck It. Mavo Valdarno Pr team’s Siarhei Papok was runner-up with 4 seconds behind Clement and ahead of Rob Squire of USA National. Walt De Winter (Jong Vlaanderen – Bauknecht) tried his best to catch the three leading cyclists but was unable to
hold the pace and grabbed fourth place with the difference of 6 seconds.
After 13 kilometres to go, the group of three cyclists made their first breakaway lead including, Mattia Pozzo (Viris), Flavien Maurelet (C.C. Nogent / Oise) and Johannes Kahra (Thuringer Energie Team). They working well together and managed to gain a few
seconds over the peloton. Maurelet launched an attack but failed and Pozzo took the first intermediate sprint.
With 49 kilometres to go, Pozzo managed to retain his lead in the second sprint while Ian Boswell increased his pace and jumped away as he took points in third sprint.
The cyclists continued the race and in the climb Jasha Sutterlin showed a decent effort and took the first climb while Ina Boswell launched an attacked and took the second, third and fourth climb of the day.
However, in the final kilometres Koretsky increased his pace and managed to cross the finish line ahead of the other riders.
The three cyclists did not finish the stage including, Victor Cabedo (Orbea Continental), Edoardo Marchisio (Progettociclismo Evo Team ASD) and Loris Cirino (Progettociclismo Evo Team ASD).
Pozzo took the overall sprint standing with 13 points ahead of Boswell and Johannes Kahra. Ian Boswell took the title of King of mountain with 22 points ahead of Sutterlin and Turgis.
Palazzago team’s Marco Guadagnini took the title of best young rider ahead of Boswell.
The second stage will run in Megeve and end in La Salle and all the cyclists will cover the distance of 142.6 kilometres.
