Clement Lefert earns Men’s 50m butterfly title: Day one – 2012 National Open of Montpellier
French veteran, Clement Lefert demonstrated his gruelling efforts by earning gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 National Open of Montpellier on February 3.
The 24-year-old Lefert remained prominently ahead of his competitors throughout the single lap butterfly event. With his unimaginably strong efforts, he suppressed all struggles of his strongest competitors, France’s Yannick Agnel and Italy’s Valerio Coggi
in the one-lap discipline.
Lefert is the key player of France’s relay team. He has made his country proud in a number of international events including the 2010 World Short Course Championships and European Championships.
He won a bronze medal in the 4*200m freestyle at the 2010 world titles. He also clinched third position in the same event while a gold medal in the 4*100m medley relay at the 2010 European Championships.
The French expert had a tremendous start, which played a vital role in providing him lead over his competitors in the beginning of the race. With his incredible efforts, Lefert sustained his position throughout the event and remained prominent for top spot
of the event.
With his elevated efforts in the final half of the race, Lefert completed his swim in a time of 24.35 seconds for gold medal. He was trailed by the 19-year-old Agnel, who stayed nearly a body length behind him and settled on the finishing wall for silver
medal.
Agnel remained 0.68 seconds slower than Lefert on the finishing wall and ensured his second place on the podium by reporting a time of 25.03 seconds. The silver medallist was followed by Coggi, who was just 0.28 seconds away from him and emerged on the finishing
end for third position by clocking a time of 25.31 seconds.
Lefert expressed happiness over his first win of the tournament and articulated his desire of achieving the same at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
The arena enjoyed fascinating efforts of all contestants, who tried to secure top spot on the podium in the butterfly event. In addition, the winners were awarded awards and accolades for their ruthless struggles in the 50m discipline.
