Clement Lefert secures Men’s 100m freestyle title: Day One – 2011 Los Angeles Invitational

Clement Lefert of Trojan-Ca won the gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle meet on the initial day of the 2011 Los Angeles Invitational on Friday, July 15.
The 23-year-old Lefert, who earned the fastest qualification spot into the finals by dominating the preliminary rounds in a time of 50.44 seconds, sustained his top spot in the final round and clocked a time of 49.37 seconds for the gold medal. He was followed
by Ned McKendry of AUS, who stayed 0.96 seconds behind him and appeared on the podium for the silver medal, by submitting a time of 50.33 seconds.
The 19-year-old McKendry stayed 0.25 seconds away from his subsequent swimmer, William F Copeland of California Aquatics-PC, who stepped on the podium for the bronze medal with a timing of 50.58 seconds.
The gold medallist achieved a comfortable lead over his fellow competitors in the initial lap, where he completed his first 50m of the race in a time of 23.86 seconds. Copeland and McKendry were the second and third fastest swimmers in the first lap, as
they ended their laps in 24.14 and 24.41 seconds, respectively. Clement accelerated his way in the second lap and posted a time of 49.37 seconds for the gold medal, while McKendry earned the silver title and Copeland finished third.
Matt C Grevers of Ford Aquatics-AZ was the fourth best swimmer of the race, as he posted a time of 50.60 seconds. Leith Brodie of AUS and Kelley P Wyman of Ford Aquatics-AZ followed him on the finishing wall as the fifth and sixth best swimmers, by submitting
a time of 50.81 and 51.04 seconds, respectively.
Aaron M Wayne of Stanford-PC emerged as the seventh fastest swimmer of the meet, as he finished his two-lap race in 51.05 seconds. Kevin B Ferguson of SBAC-CA was the last swimmer to complete his race, as he produced a time of 51.72 seconds.
The arena enjoyed the immaculate swims of all participants in the event, while the winners received medals and accolades for their undisputed efforts.
