Clement/ Mannarino, Cermak/ Polasek advance to the second round of Open de Nice Côte d’Azur
Arnaud Clement/Adrian Mannarino oust Daniele Bracciali/Colin Fleming 7-5, 6-4
French Arnaud Clement and Adrian Mannarino prevailed over the Italian/British pair of Daniele Bracciali and Colin Fleming in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in the opening round of the Open de Nice Côte d’Azur at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club
in Nice on Monday. The match lasted for only an hour and 22 minutes.
In the first set, both pairs broke each other on a number of occasions but it was Clement and Mannarino who broke their opponents thrice, sealing the set 7-5.
The French team kept their first serve percentage at 52 percent and captured 69 percent of the points on the first serve in the opening set. Clement and Mannarino saved three of the five break points they faced in the first set.
Whereas, Bracciali and Fleming managed to save just two of the five break points they faced in the opening set.
Clement and Mannarino needed a single break of serve in the second set to grab it 6-4. The French pair served better as compared to the first set, hitting 57 percent of the first serves and sealing 71 percent of the points on them
in the second set. Clement and Mannarino capitalized on one of the three break point opportunities they created and saved all the three break points on their own serve in the second set.
The French duo will meet Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek in the second round.
Frantisek Cermak/Filip Polasek defeat Somdev Devvarman/Ryan Sweeting 6-2, 6-2
Czech/Slovakian pair of Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek cruised past Indian/American team of Somdev Devvarman and Ryan Sweeting in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to reach the second round. The match lasted for just 57 minutes.
Cermak and Polasek broke their opponents thrice in the first set, winning it 6-2. The Czech/Slovakian pair fired a single ace and 65 percent of the first serves, bagging 73 percent of the points on them in the first set. The third
seeded team troubled their opponents with the first returns, converting 50 percent of them into points in the opening set. Cermak and Polasek capitalized on three of the five break point chances they created in the first set.
Carrying the momentum into the second set, the Czech/Slovakian pair broke their opponents in the first and fifth game, clinching the set 6-2.
Cermak and Polasek delivered a couple of aces and 57 percent of the first serves in the second set. The 37th ranked team captured a whopping 85 percent of the first service points in the second set. Cermak and Polasek
succeeded in claiming two of the four break points they received in the second set.
The Czech/Slovakian duo is drawn to play Arnaud Clement and Adrian Mannarino in the second round.
