Clement Reix beats Marinko Matosevic in straight sets in qualies – Farmers Classic 2011

On Sunday, 24th July 2011, the hard court at the Los Angeles Tennis Court came down very hard on the Australian tennis star Marinko Matosevic when he was pounded down by the French superstar Clement Reix in two sets
straight. The Farmers Classic California warmed up as its qualifying round moved ahead with some of the top qualifying seeds plucked out.
Playing for the first time against each other, 27-year-old Clement Reix came up against the Australian world No.154 Marinko Matosevic. With a total of 3 sets to be played in the qualifier between the two, the match ended in first
two set taking roughly 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Clement Reix has not been a successful player so far. Playing a total of 183 matches altogether, the Frenchman won 93 out of that. Majority of his matches were on Indoor hard courts or on clay. The world No.276 has won 6 out of
the last 10 fixtures he played. The Frenchman is an offensive baseliner, seemingly very careless while player near the net. However, Reix did show a better quality picture in the qualifier on Sunday.
With his rankings 15 places up in a week’s change, Marinko did not earn himself any place in the Farmers Classic as he was washed away by a storming Frenchman. Nevertheless his playing style is appreciated by many. The Australian
had a tough time playing Reix although he has been playing on hard circuits lately.
The match started off with Marinko serving in the game 1 of the match. With a disturbing start, the Aussie gave away a breakpoint with the Frenchman to serve next. However, Reix followed the footsteps of Marinko and gave away his
first breakpoint to level the scores at 1-1. However, the fight was not over yet. Marinko lost another breakpoint in game 3 just to prove himself that what he did is to be done by none other. With scores now at 2-1, Reix extended his lead to 3-1.
The Aussie finally understood how the scores increased and won the next game making the score 3-2. However, the 25-year-old had a memory loss problem when in the he gave up another breakpoint on the deciding game of the set to
lose 3-6.
Reix started the second set and opened up the scorecard 1-0. Marinko followed the lead of his opponent with pure dedication up till game 21 as it led to a tiebreaker. The 27-year-old Frenchman bagged the final game, set and match
to win 6-3, 7-6(6) and proceed to the final qualifier round.
The effortless win by the Frenchman pits him against another Lithuanian Laurynas Grigelis in the final qualifier round where the two will battle it out for a spot in the main draw.
