Clement Reix downs Maciek Sykut in the qualifying competition – 2012 Men’s Rimouski Challenger

Qualifying second seed, Clement Reix got the better of America’s Maciek Sykut in straight sets at the 2012 Challenger Banque Nationale De Rimouski on Sunday. He nudged up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the 25-year-old to secure a spot
in the final round of the qualifying competition at this hard court event which is part of ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour 2012.
Reix lost his track in the start of the second set but quickly recovered to plonk the American rising star in an hour and 16-minute marathon.
The 28-year-old stormed into the Rimouski’s hard courts and got the coveted break in the opening game to take the initial lead. He held his serves until he capitalised on another break chance in the seventh game, subsequently going
5-2 up. Apart from losing his serve in the follow-up game, Reix broke his rival’s serve again and bagged the opener with a 6-3 win.
Reix cashed in half of the six break opportunities and superbly warded off five out of six breakpoints he came across to outshine his opponent in the opening set. He also clobbered a much better first serve share of 67 per cent
and availed 12 out of 20 points on it.
The world number 450 lost his track in the proceeding set and suffered the first blow in the opening game. However, he quickly recovered by snatching his break back in the very next game. Reix maintained consistency in his game
and slid the last four games successively. He failed to block the lone breakpoint he encountered but capitalised on three out of eight break chances to clinch the set with a 6-2 score line.      
He will next face America’s Nikita Kryvonos who overcame Maximilian Wilde in almost two hours. The American challenger failed to defend all three breakpoints he faced and capitalised on four out of nine break chances to clobber
a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 score line. He also produced a better first serve share of 76 per cent as opposed to the German’s 65 per cent and tremendously availed 49 out of 69 points on it.
