Question:

Cleveland 588 Gunmetal?

I have the 588 gunmetal wedges (56, 60, and a 51 that i dont use anymore). I have noticed that as time has gone on, i am getting less spin out of them on pitch shots, is this something standard with that club? Is it a product of the material. I can check a pitched PW with my 10 year old 962'b easier than i can with my 588's. any ideas?

  1. Well, if they are rusting, they should produce more spin. Otherwise, the only reason I can think of is that maybe the grooves are worn down.

Also, the 962b wedges have V-grooves and the 588 has U-grooves.

  2. Grooves are probably dull. If you are attached to those wedges take them into a shop for groove sharpening.

Also, at the risk of being obvious, make sure the club face is clean before each shot.

  3. Sounds like they are worn out.  Maybe when you used the regroove tool on them you bunged up the edge of the grooves a little making them less sharp.  Or in spite of their age you have hit them more so they are just more worn down than the 962?  I don't think it is the material or something that happens to all Clevelands.

  4. don't know
