Cleveland Browns, rookie RB Trent Richardson likely to sign contract before weekend-NFL News
Rookie running back, Trent Richardson, has set hopes to be a regular part of the Cleveland Browns in near future.
Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft by Browns, out of Alabama, expects to sign a formal deal with the team within the next couple of days.
Although he did not confirm status of the negotiation process, there is a likelihood he will receive the new contract just around the team’s minicamp, due to start from Friday, May 11, 2012.
 He said:
"I think it's really close to being done. Hopefully it'll be done by (Thursday). Whatever it is, I'm going to be satisfied with it. It's my first time getting paid to do something that I love."
Richardson added:
"I want it done by (Thursday), because I want to get everything done with. I'm here to play football, and I'm here to win."
According to some reports, Browns are working on the deals for all new players swiftly. As a matter of fact, they have also awarded new contracts to a couple of players.
James-Michael Johnson is among those players, who have recently been given contracts by Browns. The player’s agent, Scott Smith, confirmed Johnson’s deal on Twitter on Wednesday, May 09.
The agent did not disclose terms of the deal, but some independent reports claimed it to be a four-year, $2.52 million contract. Other terms that both sides have agreed to are unknown.
The player himself said to be excited about prospects of playing for Browns.
He has already spoken to Browns’ new quarterback, Brandon Weeden, and Colt McCoy, who is returning to the side for another season in spite of the uncertainty that had surrounded his future in Cleveland over the past few months.
Richardson has particularly spoken highly of Weeden, saying:
"I've never seen a quarterback sling it like him. He plays the game like he's been in the league for years."
He also acknowledged the fact that he will have to work very hard to earn a name in the league, and apparently remains hopeful of his chances of excelling in the game.
