Cleveland Browns CB Joe Haden faces 4-game ban on use of banned drug – NFL News
The Cleveland Browns are eagerly waiting results of a test from the National Football League (NFL) on use of prescription drug Adderall by cornerback Joe Haden, which can lead to suspension of the player for four regular season games,
at least.
Joe is reportedly tested positive for use of the drug during this offseason. The medicine, which is used for attention deficiency and narcolepsy, is on the list of the league’s banned substances.
The player was made a subject of the random testing by the league and the test results showed to be positive.
In case he is banned for four games as minimum in the regular season, it can prove to be a setback for the team on the defensive line. He nevertheless is going to be a part of the side during the preseason campaign.
Joe is learnt to have been notified about the results of his first test, and at the moment he is waiting for the second test. As per rules of the league, a second test is conducted on the same/original sample and if it turns out to be
positive as well, the player will be banned from participation in the first four regular season games.
Browns have refrained from offering any comments about the player’s prospects at this stage, and said to be waiting results of the second test.
Coach Pat Shurmur said:
“Joe Haden's status is he's out here practicing getting ready to play. Beyond that I don't know anything about what was reported and if I did I wouldn't be allowed to talk about it so at this point he's out here practicing getting ready
to play a game."
Browns are already without linebacker Scott Fujita who is on suspension for three games and defensive tackle Phil Taylor. He is nursing his torn pectoral muscle injury and is unlikely to return in the near future.
Joe remains to be the key defensive player for Browns even in presence of both players, and they can only hope that he somehow gets away with the possibility of a ban for any number of games this season.
