Cleveland Browns Colt McCoy says that shoulder is completely healed
Colt McCoy, quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, said that the pinched nerve that created problems for him throughout the 2010 season is completely healed.
"It feels as good as it's ever felt," McCoy told a newspaper. "Throwing-wise, I definitely feel back up to speed. I'm not getting fatigued as much as what I was. I really feel good and confident, so that's always a plus."
McCoy admitted in the week leading up to Super Bowl XLV that the pinched nerve that he sustained in the 2010 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship Game in January 2010.
He also said that he had no problems with throwing when he met up with other Browns offensive players in April at the University of Texas for a private, informal workout.
"We have a new coach and a new system and I'm really the only one that has that much clue about what's going on," said McCoy. "I've spent a lot of time in the playbook, so it was important for us to get together and study. It was a lot mental. We spent a
lot of time understanding the basic foundation of what goes on in the West Coast (offense). It's a lot different from what we ran last year."
McCoy also said that he and other Browns teammates are planning another minicamp sometime in the middle of May, most likely at Kent State University. Like many other players and teams, McCoy and the rest of the Browns are getting together and practicing
themselves so that they can be in top condition when, and if, the NFL lockout is lifted.
McCoy also said that he has contacted offensive draft picks from this year’s draft and asked player such as fullback Owen Marecic, tight end Jordan Cameron and wide receiver Greg Little to attend the practices as well. All three plan to, as long as their
school schedules allow. He is trying to keep the practices quite but assures that the draft picks will be there when the team gathers, no matter where it is.
He also hopes that they can get quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace to join their teammates for private practices, but it is not so essential for them since they already have experience of the West Coast offensive system.
In his rookie season with the Browns, McCoy started in all eight of the eight games that he played in and recorded a completion percentage of 60.8, completing 135 passes out of 222 attempts. He accumulated 1,576 passing yards, an average of 7.1 yards per
attempt, as well as six touchdowns, nine interceptions and 23 sacks for a loss of 132 yards. He earned a passer rating of 74.5 in his first season with the Browns.
