Cleveland Browns GM Tom Hockert denies draft activity a threat to QB Colt McCoy-NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, has received another statement of endorsement from general manager, Tom Heckert, who said that the management’s activity in the draft market does not translate into an impression that McCoy is a bad quarterback.
He said that McCoy is capable of playing and the team’s efforts to weigh their options on the offensive line do not mean a threat to Colt McCoy’s future at Browns.
Heckert said:
"We like Colt. Left tackle's probably not where we'd go, but most other positions, if we find somebody we think is a really good player and is better than that guy, we're going to do it. But that's all positions. It's not Colt.”
He added:
"We like Colt. We think Colt can play. I know everybody talked about the Washington deal, but it's not like you're saying Colt's a bad quarterback by doing that."
Colt McCoy’s performance as the leading QB for Browns has consistently remained below the mark and according to some reports, which linked Browns to an interest for No. 3 draft QB, McCoy was facing some difficulties in his future in Cleveland.
However, the GM and coach, Pat Shurmur, have denied those suggestions in their respective statements and backed McCoy for a comeback next season.
Now the GM has reiterated his stance on the QB, ruling out that the draft-related hustle bustle could prove fatal to McCoy’s career with them.
McCoy, who suffered a head injury in the later part of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season, will return to his previous starting position unless there is some unexpected change in the team’s offence’s scheme.
Browns have recently started the offseason voluntary workout with coach, Pat Shurmur, as in-charge for the first time. The 2012 NFL season is going to be the second year of Shurmur’s coaching career at Browns.
The team finished the 2011 NFL regular season with a record of 4-12, another year of their poor form.
The coach remains hopeful of the chance of better performance from the team this year and as a preparation to it has been through some changes. This includes the ongoing activity in the draft market.
