Cleveland Browns OC Brad Childress backs Josh Cribbs at injured WR Mohamed Massaquoi place – NFL News
Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Brad Childress has hinted at increase in time for return specialist Josh Cribbs on the offensive line to make up for absence of wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi who with a hamstring injury will be out of the side for
Baltimore Ravens game this Thursday night.
Massaquoi has missed the entire team training this week and the managers finally confirmed on Wednesday that they will be heading into the game without him. As a replacement, the Browns expect Cribbs, who gained 24 yards in their last game, to take additional
workload in the Ravens game.
Brad said:
"We're going to water drop him in there, but to tell you that he would have a leading role, I would be misleading anybody to say that. "We're going to have plays for him in there that are his plays. Even though they're his plays, it doesn't mean the ball
is going to be able go to him just by virtue of some of the progressions we have. We can look at him, if he's gloved or he's covered, then you can't go there.”
He added:
"You could have the best intentions with Josh and still not be able to get him the football."
Another option for the team is Greg Little, but apparently coach Pat Shurmur is frustrated over the ratio of drops the player has so far ended up with. He nevertheless is likely to be exposed in Massaquoi's absence. This is also an opportunity for Little
to prove that he has overcome the mistakes of the recent past.
Little faces immense pressure from Shurmur and there is a possibility him being ousted from the team altogether as the coach while putting him on the warning said he was not afraid of making an abrupt shuffle in the squad.
Wide receiver Jordan Norwood also stands an opportunity to perform at Massaquoi's place because of the lack of options for the Browns amid failing of Little.
Irrespective of the alternatives, the Browns might miss Massaquoi given they are not going to have an easygoing versus the far better side of the Ravens.
