Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden faces increasing pressure to do better – NFL News
The Cleveland Browns have started exerting pressure on rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden to step up level of his game and give a disciplined performance, and the player said he realises the concerns of the team over his form.
A particular issue pointed out is that the rookie has a higher number of interceptions, which the Browns have asked him to minimise to an acceptable level.
Brandon himself said he is aware of the situation and certainly is eager to do better. He said:
"I'm not a moron. I think lost in all of this is that I'm a rookie. I'm still playing teams for the first time. I'm still seeing things for the first time. I'm making a lot of mistakes that I'm making for the first time. I'm trying not to repeat them. But
I'm not a nine or 10-year veteran.”
He added:
"Some people might lose track of that sometimes. But it is what it is. I've got to play better. I've got to do my part to help this team win."
The fresh words of improvement have hit the Browns as the number of critics of Brandon keeps on increasing, and coach Pat Shurmur is particularly under fans’ pressure to replace Weeden with Colt McCoy on the starting line.
A day earlier, some commentators suggested that the team might be better off if they try running back Trent Richardson as an offence leader. This could be a possibility given Trent happens to be the most talented running back out of this year’s draft.
After having played nine games, the Browns are with 2-7 record and even if they are able to pull off a couple of more victories they will finish very much in line with each year’s record of four or five wins.
One change this year is that the Browns are going into hands of a new owner and it is essential for players like Weeden to perform better to secure long-term prospects with the team.
The stakes are higher for the offence leader, as they are for coach Pat Shurmur, and they need to work a way out to convince the new owner, and that is only better performance.
