Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy adamant to succumb to starting role pressure-NFL News
Quarterback, Colt McCoy, looks to have come to the realisation that there is nothing much he can do about his future with the Cleveland Browns amid the team’s expressive desire of seeing rookie QB, Brandon Weeden, assuming the charge of their offence at
earliest.
McCoy, who had suffered a concussion into later part of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season, returned to the squad for the first time on Tuesday, May 22, the day Browns started organised team activities (OTAs).
While commenting on the quarterback situation at Browns for the first time since emergence of Weeden as the direct competitor on the starting line, McCoy said he is aiming to embrace the changes as they develop.
He ruled out seeking a trade from Browns and said that he would let the entire situation develop its own way instead of trying it out.
Since the team has left the starting role open for a competition between him and Weeden, McCoy said he will wait for the opportunity to come and then see how he goes about it.
McCoy said:
"This is the card that's been dealt. I can just say that I'm working as hard as I can. You never know what to expect. One of my favourite quotes by the NAVY Seals is, 'The only easy day was yesterday.' That's just kind of how I have to live right now."
In spite of putting up a brave face and expressions, McCoy looked well aware of the reality that his days in Cleveland might have been numbered.
He probably realises that general manager, Tom Heckert, could not be clearer in sounding a strong message to the QB when he said that he wanted the best guy in the charge and that he wanted Weeden to be that best guy out there.
A number of questions have been surrounding the future prospects of McCoy at Browns since the management started weighing options for the new draft quarterback.
Yet in spite of the uncertainty, McCoy is given the credit for handling the situation with a mature approach. He has been waiting patiently for things to happen instead of making them happen or pressing the panic button.
