Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy hangs around without hopes of fair shot at No. 1 spot – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, is not happy the way the team has handled his presence in the squad since the last quarter of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season as in spite of the management’s assurances of dealing his case fairly
some commentators believe he feels to not have been given a fair chance to make his case.
Colt has been told by the managers that he will have an opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback position along with rookie, Brandon Weeden, but it appears the team is not as considerate to try him out on the starting line again, and has at more
than one occasion hinted at projecting Weeden to start since the very first game this season.
While the incumbent remains determined to fight for his position, he knows that he does not have control over many things. Recently, he confided to one of local media outlets that he does not see everything turning out to be as he wishes.
He said:
"We'll see, I don't know. There are a lot of things I can control and I'm controlling those things. The things beyond that I try to do my best to not worry about those and go out there and do what I do on the field, that's the most important thing. Beyond
that, I can't do anything else."
The recent uncertainty about Colt’s place in the team, let alone the starting position’s instability, started a couple of months ago, in April when the 2012 NFL draft was held.
McCoy had been assured by Browns that they will not look for a first-round QB in the draft but they went for it. Later, they denied to have made such a commitment to the incumbent.
A similar situation had surrounded the QB’s future when his concussion was mishandled, bringing his career almost on the line.
Although McCoy himself remained silent over the team's permission to him to return to the field without inspection for the head injury, his father had lashed at Browns over the mishandling of the injury.
Since then he is regularly in the news on the prospects of staying or leaving Browns. The uncertainty particularly gained grounds after Weeden landed in Cleveland, being seen as the direct replacement for McCoy on the starting line.
Luckily, McCoy is still holding on to his position in spite of all the threatening conditions created around him.
