Cleveland Browns Running Back Peyton Hillis denies considering retirement, while Hillis has been reported to start working with the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency)-NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ RB (Runnig Back), Peyton Hillis, has disputed credibility of the reports claiming the player had once thought of calling it quits from the NFL (National Football League).
His strong rebuttal has come a week after some media reports linked him to the decision of retirement without highlighting the specific reason behind the move.
Furthermore, the reports also claimed that the player was going to join the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), but this rumour was not confirmed.
Now Hillis has come with the denial of considering the option of retirement from the league anytime in the near past and labelled the talk around the possibility as ‘ridiculous.’
“That's ridiculous," he said.
Adding that:
"I never one time mentioned anything to any coach about retirement or joining the CIA or anything like that. That's pretty much ridiculous and 100 per cent false. I don't know what's going on or who came up with a story like that, but they should've come up with a better one to make it sound more legit."
The possibility of him calling it a day from the NFL can be understandable, but the speculations of joining the CIA must rather be a surprise for him.
He apparently was taken aback from the shocking disclosure and sensed some people were trying to downplay his name.
Hillis noted:
"Someone is trying to downplay my name. I pretty much keep my mouth quiet and go about my business."
The stance was also backed by the team’s coach, Pat Shurmur, who said that the player has never spoken with him about retiring from the league.
He said it was most likely for the player to mention such a development to him if and when he decides to quit the game.
The RB is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the NFL trade deadline of March 13, 2012. So far, the team has not hinted at retaining him for more seasons, or re-signing him off the free agency.
He has not been linked to a possible move to any other franchise as well, which leaves his future prospects wide open at present.
Browns have reportedly assigned the franchise tag to kicker, Phil Dawson.
This development will make it difficult for Hillis to play for the side without signing a fresh contract.
There is no comment from the team’s manager or coach to possibly indicate a potential solution for the player.
Amid the mum, he is increasingly becoming an impossibility for the team.
Hillis, meanwhile, confirmed parting ways with his agent, Kennard McGuire, as, the player said, things were not working well for them.
Some reports suggest that Hillis was not happy with his agent’s efforts of exploring the possibility of a fresh deal with Browns.
