Cleveland Browns WR Joshua Cribbs gears up for next game despite family safety fears – NFL News
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Joshua Cribbs said he is ready to roll this week in spite of his family concerns about him playing football with risks of getting vicious hits like he received from Baltimore Ravens linebacker Dannell Ellerbe in their matchup
last weekend which made Joshua’s family cringe, requesting him to change course of the profession by stopping playing football anymore.
Although Cribbs has turned down the family request, he admits there are higher risks of severe hits and injuries as serious as concussions in the professional league.
This he said after returning to practice for the first time on Wednesday and boasted his preparedness for the next game. He said:
"My wife was hysterical. My whole family was crying. They were scared. They don't want me to play anymore. But I'm not afraid."
While talking to media on the sidelines of practice, he kept himself on the lighter side of the mood, laughing and joking around, probably to convince his family to see he is fine and not worried about anything.
He added:
"I have a kill switch. I don't remember the hit. I didn't feel the hit. I remember walking off. I wanted to play. I wanted to go back in the game. They had to hide my helmet so I wouldn't try to."
Being a receiver, Cribbs is more exposed out in the centre of the field than any other player. So he is always on a greater risk of being hit and injured. It is encouraging to note that the player has not lost his confidence at all and is ready to face off
the oppositions’ defence as ever before.
This is also good news for the Cleveland Browns given the team has been struggling to make an impression on the field throughout this season. Since Cribbs remains crucial to their offence, on the receiving end of rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden, his ousting
could take a toll on their better performance chances.
Colt McCoy, Joshua Cribbs and Scott Fujita are some of the only few experienced players in Browns’ side which otherwise has as many as 15 rookies, and ousting any of these veterans can prove fatal to overall performance of the team.
